LNL President Doreen Layman and Minister of Environment Ross Wiseman planted a Linden tree on June 1st, 2011 on Confederation Hill

Since 2008, Landscape Newfoundland and Labrador (LNL) has been celebrating Arbor Day in NL with tree plantings around the province. In 2009, the Minister of Environment proclaimed June 1st as Arbor Day in the province, and since then LNL has been partnering with the Department to plant a tree on Confederation Hill each year, as well as in all parts of NL with our members.“In 2011, LNL planted a Linden Tree on Confederation Hill with the Minister of Environment Ross Wiseman at 11:00am on June 1st” said LNL President, Doreen Layman (Mr. Turf – St. John’s). “In addition, this year LNL expanded our Arbor Day program to partner with local schools offering a poster contest, where students were asked to asked to portray the benefits of tree’s towards a healthy lifestyle for children and their families. The two winning school’s had tree’s planted at their school’s at 2:00pm on June 1st”.

By planting tree’s and celebrating Arbor Day, it reminds us how we can do our part in our communities to help moderate climate, improve air quality, conserve water, and protect wildlife all by planting a tree.

Members of LNL also participated in Arbor Day with tree plantings around the province. “This was a great opportunity for LNL to showcase the benefits of our industry’s products and services to the Environment – tree’s have many different environmental, social and economic benefits that our communities can benefit from”.

Participating LNL members included Daisy Design and the Town of Grand Bank, Murray’s Horticultural Services and the Town of Portugal Cove – St. Phillip’s, O’Neill’s Gardenland and the Town of Spaniard’s Bay, C.D.’s Tree’s and The Town of Logy Bay, Middle Cove, and Outer Cove.

Congratulations to the two winning schools, Morris Academy and Mary Queen of Peace who had Linden tree’s planted on June 1st at 2:30pm by LNL members. Thank you to Sheridan Nurseries for donating three Linden tree’s for the Arbor Day plantings.

CNLA CERTIFICATION PROGRAM UNDERGOES REBRANDING

Milton, ON November 2, 2009 — The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) and PLANET’s International Certification Council (ICC) are pleased to announce that beginning January 2010, all certified individuals will be called Landscape Industry Certified. “CNLA has worked tirelessly to align the certification programs with national standards and follow a robust strategic planning initiative,” says Certification Committee Chair Terry Nicholson, Landscape Industry Certified Technician.

The new brand name, Landscape Industry Certified, consolidates specialties of green industry certification under one umbrella. Now, everyone who is certified will be identified with this universal title. “Our ultimate goal is to create demand by consumers for Landscape Industry Certified individuals,” explains Nicholson. “This rebranding effort demonstrates growth in our industry and in our careers.”

Landscape Industry Certified speaks very clearly to the end customer. No longer will lengthy explanations about what the acronyms behind a signature mean. It also has universal appeal as the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) has adopted the new brand name and logo for its professional development program. This will pave the way for broader recognition of industry certification across North America.

The CNLA certification program continuously seeks to align itself with the certification industry’s best practices as defined by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) standards. NCCA is the accrediting body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA). The increased reliability and validity of the exams helps to create greater confidence in the certification process.
For more updates about CNLA certification’s new brand in the coming months, visit www.landscapeindustrycertified.org, call the CNLA office at (888) 446-3495.

The Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) is a national not-for-profit federation of nine provincial landscape and horticulture associations representing over 3,500 members in the landscape, retail garden centre, and nursery sectors.
